Brockett Book Prize
Congratulations to author Paul Scolieri and the University of Texas Press! Professor Scolieri’s book Dancing the New World: Aztecs, Spaniards, and the Choreography of Conquest has received the 2014 Oscar G. Brockett Book Prize for Dance Research. Paul sent a kind note:
The awards committee specifically mentioned the high quality of the book’s production and design, which has everything to do with your gorgeous maps!
It’s always interesting to work with scholars and get a glimpse into the complexity and detailed nature of their studies. For instance, though the New Directions classic Cortes and Montezuma is a favorite on my re-reading shelf, and I loved visiting Mexico City’s Museo Nacional de AntropologÃa, Paul’s focus on the role of dance in Aztec culture and European conquest was new to me.
Congratulations to Paul and the Press, and thanks for the opportunity to contribute maps to this handsome volume.
